WALLA WALLA, Wash. – Nina Moore scored six goals to lead Whitman past Whitworth 19-3 in Wednesday evening's Northwest Conference women's lacrosse contest.
Laura Wells made six saves to lead the Pirates (1-11, 1-8 NWC) in goal. Sage Ali added four goals for the Blues (7-4, 5-2 NWC) and Ali Pope scored three more.
Whitman dominated the first half, scoring the first 14 goals before Carolyn Quinn halted the run with a free-position goal that came with 2 minutes left in the half. Pope and Ali led the offensive explosion with three goals apiece.
Whitworth fared better in the second half, netting an unassisted goal from Shay Clark and a free-position goal from Hannah Meador. The Bucs also looked better defensively, holding the Blues to just four goals in the half.
The Pirates finished the game with a perfect 6-6 clear rate, 3 in each half. Clark led the Bucs with three draw controls and Meador forced a pair of turnovers.
Whitworth returns home on Friday, April 19 to take on Puget Sound. The Pirates and Loggers square off at 4 p.m. with a senior day ceremony preceding the game at 3:40 p.m.
