Softball Drops Third Game; Fourth Suspended

McMINNVILLE, Ore. – Tenth-ranked Linfield earned a 5-0 win over visiting Whitworth in the third game of a Northwest Conference softball series on Sunday.  The series finale was suspended by rain heading to the bottom of the sixth inning with the Pirates ahead 4-2.

Whitworth (20-8 overall, 14-4 NWC) now has two league games under suspension that that Pirates will have to complete before the start of the NWC tournament on April 26th.  A game at George Fox on March 3 was suspended in the tenth inning due to darkness with the teams tied 8-8.

Linfield (25-4-1, 18-1) got its second shutout win of the series by senior pitcher Shelby Saylors, who held the Pirates to six hits.  She struck out six batters and did not allow a walk.

Whitworth starting pitcher Drea Schwaier-Wolf threw only two bad pitches in the game.  Abi Proffitt drilled a two-run home run for Linfield in the second inning and Maddy Colson hit a three-run shot in the fourth for all of Linfield's offense.

Schwaier-Wolf fell to 11-3 allowed only two earned runs on six hits in four innings.

Rheanne Lewis has two hits and an RBI in the suspended second game.  Madelyn Carlson has gone the distance in the circle for the Pirates.
