Pirates Sweep Loggers in Men's Tennis

SPOKANE, Wash. – Whitworth University won its second straight Northwest Conference men's tennis match with a 9-0 victory over visiting University of Puget Sound on Saturday at the Scotford Tennis Center.

The Pirates improved to 5-11 overall and 2-4 in the NWC while the Loggers dropped to 0-12, 0-6.  Whitworth will host Pacific Lutheran on Sunday at 10:00 am.

Jake Bethards teamed with Jacob Floyd to give Whitworth an 8-1 win over Sid Alwen and Graham Bryon at #3 doubles.  Ben Bethards and Cameron Brewer won 8-3 at #2 doubles, while Sean Singco and Kinkaid Norris claimed #1 singles by the same score.

Singco and Ben Bethards won in straight sets at #2 and #3 singles, respectively, to clinch the team victory for the Pirates.  Jake Bethards rallied past Riley Inn 3-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-6) at #1 singles in the only match to go more than two sets.

Norris (#4), Brewer (#5) and Nick Hughes (#6) all won easily in straight sets.
