SPOKANE, Wash. – The Whitworth men's soccer team finished the season with a commanding 3-1 victory over the visiting Whitman Blues in Saturday's Northwest Conference matchup.
Whitworth (10-9-1, 8-6 NWC) closes the season in fourth place in the NWC standings. Whitman (13-7, 10-4) takes second in the conference standings with the loss. Pacific Lutheran claimed the NWC title with its win against Puget Sound.
Reidt gave the Pirates the early lead in the sixth minute, putting in his sixth goal of the year. Eric Shaporda sent a cross from the end line to Reidt in the middle of the box to get the sequence started.
The Pirates doubled their lead in the 54th minute as Clifford beat Whitman goalkeeper Owen-Davis Bower and tapped a pass over to Williams. Williams found space in the middle of the box and sent a shot into the open goal.
Johnathan Guglielmetti increased the Bucs' lead to 3-0 in the 73rd minute with a shot from the top of the box. Blair sent in a cross to Guglielmetti for the assist.
Whitman cut the Pirates' lead to 3-1 with 10 minutes remaining in the second half. Jacob Barsher found Jordan Furukawa in the box and sent his shot by Whitworth goalkeeper Bo Broyles.
Whitworth finished with the lead in shots (15-12) and corner kicks (6-3) with both teams attempting six shots on goal. Broyles tallied five saves for the Pirates. Davis-Bower finished with three saves.
