TACOMA, Wash. – The visiting Whitworth men's soccer team took down Puget Sound 2-0 in Saturday afternoon's Northwest Conference contest to earn its third consecutive shutout win.
The Pirates (8-7-1, 6-4 NWC) climb over the Loggers (8-4-3, 5-4-1) in the NWC standings with the victory. Johnathan Guglielmetti scored his first collegiate goal in the contest. The freshman also has three assists on the year.
Whitworth took the lead 16 minutes into the match thanks to an own goal by Puget Sound. Zanskar Blair started the sequence sending a corner kick into the box.
Guglielmetti sealed the 2-0 win in the 78th minute, sending in a rebound off Loggers goalkeeper Blake Robertson.
The Bucs outplayed Puget Sound on both ends, finishing with a 16-2 advantage in shots and holding the Loggers to one shot on goal all match. Robertson finished with four saves and Bo Broyles recorded one save.
