SPOKANE, Wash. – The Whitworth men's soccer team capped off an undefeated weekend at home with a 2-0 win over the visiting Pacific (Ore.) Boxers in Sunday afternoon's Northwest Conference match.

The Pirates (7-7-1, 5-4 NWC) outshot the Boxers 22-4 in the victory. Whitworth took 12 shots on goal and held the Boxers to only two shots on target. Pacific drops to 1-10-3 overall and 0-7-2 in conference play.

Whitworth dominated possession throughout the match, but Jack Orum made some important saves to keep the match in reach for Pacific. Orum made a diving save to knock away a hard-driven shot by Chase Reidt in the seventh minute, one of his best stops of the day.

The Pirates scored their first goal of the match in the 17th minute. Johnathan Guglielmetti sent a pass from behind the box to Drew Williams who gathered the pass, then sent a shot into the left side of the net for the 1-0 lead.

The Boxers' best scoring opportunities both came from Nico Allen. With nine minutes remaining in the first half, Allen dribbled down the right side of the field and had a one-on-one chance with Pirates goalkeeper Bo Broyles. Broyles dove to his right to prevent the match-tying goal.

Allen sped down the field again in the 63rd minute but sent his shot right into the hands of Broyles.

Britton Clifford gave the Pirates the 2-0 lead in the 74th minute. Clifford's first shot was saved by a Boxers' defender. The senior knocked in the rebound to record his fourth goal of the season.

Clifford led the Pirates with five shots, three on goal. Cade Taniguchi and Nico Allen each took two shots for the Boxers. Broyles finished with two saves and Orum recorded nine.

Up next, Whitworth will head west to face Pacific Lutheran and Puget Sound.
