CLAREMONT, Calif. – The Whitworth Pirates and Pomona-Pitzer Sagehens battled to a 2-2 tie in a hard-fought men's soccer matchup on Saturday evening in Claremont, California.
Whitworth (2-2-1) finished with 12 shots, six on goal. Pomona-Pitzer (1-3-1) tallied 10 shots with five on goal.
The Sagehens got out to an early lead five minutes into the match as Dylan McCuskey sent a cross through the middle of the box for Eamon Stein to send inside the far post.
Pomona-Pitzer closed out the first half with a goal by Jorge Guillen-Lopez off a pass from Graeme Logan.
The alternating of goals continued into the second half as Zanskar Blair lobbed in a shot over Sagehens goalkeeper Bryan Diangson to tie the match at 2-2. The Sagehens nearly took back the lead on a penalty kick taken by Jack Arnold, but Jesus Nunez made a diving save to his left to keep the score even.
In the second overtime, a red card on Pomona-Pitzer defender Cooper Morrison gave the Pirates an opportunity right outside the top of the box, but the Bucs could not put the game away as Blair's shot drifted left.
Up next, the Pirates take on La Verne tomorrow evening at 6:00 pm.
