SPOKANE, Wash. – On a night that honored Whitworth's seniors, it was junior Lauren Budde who powered the Pirates to a 25-23, 25-17, 25-17 win over visiting George Fox in a Northwest Conference volleyball match on Saturday night.
Budde finished with 11 kills and no errors in 18 attempts for a .611 hitting percentage. She was also in on four block assists, leading the Pirates with 13 total points. She had five of her kills in the opening set to help Whitworth hold off a hard charge from the Bruins (8-10 overall, 7-7 NWC).
The Bucs took advantage of nine service aces, led by six from Taylor Wicht. Wicht also led Whitworth with 15 digs. The Pirates had a team block advantage of 8.0 – 4.0. Like Budde, Corinne Bell was also in on four block assists.
Danyle Dupray led George Fox with 12 kills and 12 digs. Delaney Cruz added seven kills for the Bruins, who hit .174. George Fox committed nine service errors.
Whitworth earned its 11th straight win over George Fox and improved to 14-9 overall and 11-3 in the NWC. The Pirates trail league-leading Pacific Lutheran by one game in the loss column.
Whitworth will conclude the regular season with a pair of road matches next weekend at Pacific (Ore.) and Linfield.
