SPOKANE, Wash. – The Whitworth University women's tennis team shut out Pacific Lutheran 9-0 for the second time in 2017 on Saturday afternoon at the Scotford Tennis Center.
The Pirates improved to 6-8 overall and 4-5 in the Northwest Conference while the Lutes dropped to 2-13, 1-10.
Whitworth earned three quick points at doubles. First Bella Hoyos and Erica Lee defeated Caroline Dreher and Megan Beyers 8-1 at #1 doubles. Then Emma Jo Wiley and Jennifer Adams topped Emily Bower and Emily Beemsterboer 8-3 at #2. Paige Rohrbach and Madline Ball pulled out an 8-6 win over Lauren Kearney and Kristi Floyd at #3 doubles.
The Pirates quickly clinched the team victory when Wiley defeated Bower 6-2, 6-2 at #2 singles and Hoyes beat Dreher by the exact same score at #1 singles.
Adams followed with a 6-3, 7-5 win over Beyers at #3. Sandquist rolled to a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Kearney at #5 singles. Lee beat Beemsterboer 6-4, 6-3 at #4.
Rohrbach pulled out the only match that went past two sets at #6, 4-6, 6-1, 1-0 (16-14) over Kylie Rademacher.
Whitworth will take on Puget Sound at home on Sunday, hoping to reverse a 5-4 loss to the Loggers earlier this season.
