SPOKANE, Wash. – Roya Tahmassebi scored five goals and Madyson Ivey finished with sixteen saves to lead Pacific (Ore.) past Whitworth 13-5 in both teams' Northwest Conference opener.

Trinity Frank led the Pirates (0-2, 0-1 NWC) with two goals, four groundballs, and four draw controls. Hannah Meador added six groundballs and a goal.

Tahmassebi got help from Alexa Erickson and Rebecca Jimenez-Aleman, who each provided two goals for the Boxers (2-1, 1-0 NWC).

The game was a back-and-forth affair in the opening ten minutes, with Frank answering Vivian Mai's free-position goal to knot the game at one. Though Jimenez-Aleman put the Boxers up 2-1 just a minute later, the two teams battled for the following six minutes.

Pacific took control of the game with 17:34 remaining in the first half. Amber Lancia scored a free-position goal that kicked off a run of three Boxer goals in less than three minutes. Carolyn Quinn cut the Pacific lead to 5-2 by sliding a goal past Ivey, but the Boxers responded with two more and led 8-3 at halftime.

Frank and Tahmassebi traded goals to open the second half, but the Boxers scored 4 unanswered over the following 12 minutes to put the game away. Erickson contributed both of her goals during the run.

Whitworth finished the game with a 29-26 advantage in shots and a 24-23 lead in groundballs. The Boxers held advantages in successful clears (18-11) and saves (16-3).

The Pirates return to the Pine Bowl on Sunday, March 17 when they take on Linfield at 1 p.m.
