SPOKANE, Wash. – Madison Moffat earned her ninth double-double of the season to lead the Whitworth Pirates in a 78-63 win over the Linfield Wildcats.

The victory snapped a seven-game losing streak for the Pirates, (7-10, 2-6 NWC) who led by 27 midway through the second quarter. The Wildcats (7-10, 3-5 NWC) got within 12 points at multiple points, but couldn't close the gap any further.

The Pirates set about ending the losing streak from the game's first minutes. The Wildcats made the game's first basket on a Paige Graham layup, but Whitworth retook the lead and refused to relinquish it.

Camy Aguinaldo led the Bucs in the inaugural quarter, scoring 11 of Whitworth's 24 points by shooting a perfect 5-5 from the field. The Pirates shot 56% (5-9) from beyond the arc and finished the period with a 24-12 lead.

The strong play continued into the second quarter. The Pirates opened the period by scoring 15 straight points and running up their lead to 39-12. Excellent defense keyed the run, as Linfield scored its first basket of the quarter with 5:10 left in it.

On the other end, Whitworth's offense was running on all cylinders. Five Bucs scored in the 15-0 run, including a trio of three-pointers from Lexi Tinney, Shannon Tran, and Moffat. Aguinaldo contributed four points to go with a pair of assists, and Erika Kuehn knocked down a jumper for the Bucs.

Linfield battled back, finishing the half on an 11-0 run to cut the Whitworth lead to 16 and the Bucs hit the break with a 43-27 advantage. At halftime the Pirates were shooting 50% from the field and from beyond the arc.

After the break, Linfield looked to be staging a third quarter comeback. The Wildcats pulled themselves back within 12 and seemed to retake the momentum. Whitworth took it right back. After free throw from Moffat, Madison Abbott poked away a steal and Tinney knocked down a fast-break three to extend the lead back out to 16.

The three started a personal 8-1 run for Tinney in which she singlehandedly gave the Bucs a 20-point lead and forced a Linfield timeout with 2:17 left in the third quarter. Whitworth finished the third with a 66-49 lead.

The fourth quarter saw Linfield again squeeze its deficit down to 12 with 7:06 left, but Whitworth slowly drew the lead back out to 19. Douglas essentially closed out the game when she buried a three from the right corner with 2:48 remaining.

The Pirates finished the game shooting 44% from the field and 43% from the three-point line. Despite being the much smaller team, the Bucs outrebounded Linfield 37-36. The Wildcats shot 38% from the floor, but Whitworth held Linfield to just 8% shooting from beyond the arc.

Aguinaldo led Whitworth with 20 points and 5 assists. She also finished with only one turnover, a season-low for the freshman point guard. Grace Douglas and Lexi Tinney joined Aguinaldo in double figures with 15 and 11 points respectively. Moffat's secured her double-double with 13 points and 15 rebounds.

Next up, the Pirates return to the Fieldhouse to take on Puget Sound and Pacific Lutheran.
