REDLANDS, Calif. – Whitworth closed out its season-opening road trip with a dominant sweep of Redlands on Monday.

The Pirates (5-3) won both games of their doubleheader by a combined score of 22-3. Rheanne Lewis played a role in 9 of the Bucs' 22 runs, scoring twice and driving in 7 runs. Whitworth pitchers allowed just two earned runs on the day.

Hayley DiMase provided nearly all of Redlands' (2-2) offense, driving in both of the Bulldogs' earned runs on the day while going 3-6.

Game 1: Whitworth 13, Redlands 2 (6 innings)

Nine Pirates picked at least one hit and eight scored one run or more in the Bucs' blowout victory.

Lewis produced much of the offense, going 2-4 with 4 RBI Michelle Silva contributed 3 more RBI with a 2-4 day at the plate, and Sara Gayer went 3-4 with 3 runs scored.

Whitworth led from start to finish thanks to a first inning single from Lewis that scored Kinsey McNaught and Kaylie Lowery. Maddy Thomas added two more runs to the scoreboard with a double to left-center field, and an error allowed the Pirates' fifth run of the opening frame to score.

Redlands scored its only two runs of the contest when a throwing error allowed two runners to score and DiMase to reach base in the bottom of the fourth inning. Whitworth maintained its five-run lead by bookending the inning with runs in the top of the fourth and fifth innings.

The Pirates invoked the mercy rule as a result of a six-run sixth inning. McNaught opened the scoring by walking with the bases loaded and Silva followed with a two-RBI single. Lewis added a run with a groundout and Logan Miller's single to center field scored the final two runs of the game.

Madelyn Carlson and Kylie Harris split time in the circle. Carlson tossed three scoreless innings, allowing six hits and striking out two. Harris gave up two runs, though only one was earned, and struck out four batters.

Game 2: Whitworth 9, Redlands 1 (5 innings)

Whitworth piled on eight runs in the fourth inning to close out its sweep of the Bulldogs.

Lewis led the charge with 3 RBI in 2 at-bats, cementing an excellent day for the junior. She opened the scoring with single and drove in the final two runs of the frame with a triple to right field.

In between, the Pirates added on five runs without recording an out. Natalie Edlin gave the Bucs a 2-0 lead with a single into left field, which Desi Graham followed with a run-scoring single of her own. After Lowery bunted her way on base, McNaught drove in the fourth run of the inning with a single to left field. Silva made the score 6-0 with a two-RBI single to left-center.

The Bucs tacked on their final run in the fifth inning. Miller opened the frame with a double and Lowery drove the junior in with a two-out single.

Drea Schwaier-Wolf was excellent in the circle, allowing just one run in five innings of work. The freshman allowed six hits and struck out three.
