Pirate Men Blank Puget Sound 9-0

SPOKANE, Wash. – The Whitworth University men rolled to their second tennis win of the season with a 9-0 victory over visiting Puget Sound on Saturday morning at the Scotford Tennis Center.

The Pirates improved to 2-7 overall and 2-5 in the NWC, while the Loggers fell to 0-8, 0-7.

Whitworth completed its doubles sweep in just over 30 minutes.  Jeffrey Vulis and Jake Bethards ran away with an 8-0 win over Ben Colson and Chet Selis.  Then Shane Sandlin and Caleb Hughes defeated Joe McRoberts and Riley Inn 8-2, while Ian Fisher and Ben Bethards beat Chris Severt and Jacob Kompolt by the same score.

Whitworth reached the necessary five points to secure the team victory quickly into the singles competition.  Sandlin ran by McRoberts 6-1, 6-1 at #1 singles, while Fisher topped Selis by the same score at #3 singles. 

Jeffrey Vulis had little trouble defeating Severt 6-1, 6-0 at #4 singles.

Whitworth will play three matches in California over spring break, beginning with Monday's match at Hope International University.
