NEWBERG, Ore. - Jonah Snyder scored one goal in each half to lift the Whitworth men's soccer team past George Fox on Friday night in a Northwest Conference match.
Despite being outshot 16 to 13 in total shots, the Pirates had five shots on goal and held the Bruins to only four.
Snyder scored his 12th goal of the season in the 22nd minute on a cross from Eric Espinoza. In the second half, a Pirate passing play set up a double assist from Alfredo Ornelas and Sam McKay to Snyder for his second goal of the match in the 53rd minute, giving the Pirates a 2-0 lead.
All of George Fox's shots on goal came in the first half and were handled by Whitworth goalkeeper Timmy Costa. Andrew Phillis had three saves and gave up two goals.
George Fox had three yellow cards. The first card was issued to Joel Schierman in the 23rd minute. Also in the 23rd minute, Moises Manon and Whitworth's Aaron Yanagi were issued cautions. Daniel Alonzo received a card in the 31st minute.
Next Up: The Pirates will head to Forest Grove to face the Boxers of Pacific (Ore.) on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. Whitworth won the last meeting 7-0.
