SPOKANE, Wash. – The Whitworth men's soccer team dominated Pacific (Ore.) 7-0 in a Northwest Conference match on Saturday. Moi Diaz posted his first hat trick in a Pirate uniform to lead the victory.

Whitworth fired 16 shots (13 on goal) while holding the Boxers to only three shots on target despite the Boxers aggressive pressure.  Diaz had four shots on goal and Drew Williams added three more shots on target in the Pirates' win.

Whitworth started their scoring frenzy in the 14th minute when Rylan Berriman put the ball through Pacific goalkeeper Leyton Thomassen's legs and took the ball to the endline, he then hard crossed it to the front of a wide-open goal for Diaz to finish. In the 16th minute Diaz received a through ball and put it right in front of the net for Jonah Snyder to put away. The Pirates took a 3-0 lead into halftime on a goal from Alfredo Ornelas in the 37th minute. Aaron Yanagi cleared a Boxer free kick from Whitworth's defensive third to Christian Haas on a long through ball. Haas crossed the ball into the middle of the box where Ornelas was able to control and finish.

Diaz scored his second goal of the game in the 58th minute on an assist from Austin Cassity after he stole the ball from a Pacific defender and crossed it on the ground to Diaz waiting in front of the goal. The hat trick was completed in the 61st minute when Diaz deflected a long ball off of Thomassen, who was coming out of the box, and finished from 20 yards out on a wide-open goal. Williams found Haas in the 65th minute for the sixth goal of the contest. After a physical game, Sam McKay was finally given a call in the box that led to a penalty kick. McKay took the shot in the 88th minute and put it in the lower left corner opposite of backup goalkeeper Alex Pells for the final goal.

Thommasen had four saves and allowed five goals before being injured on a collision between him and Diaz in the 61st minute. He was replaced by sophomore GK Alex Pells who had one save and gave up two goals. Timmy Costa had two saves before being replaced by Jesus Nunez in the 88th minute.
