Pirates Drop Fourth Game in Southern California

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – Tanner Wright went 3-4 and scored three runs to lead California Lutheran to a 6-2 victory over visiting Whitworth in a non-conference college baseball game on Sunday afternoon.

The Pirates fell to 3-7 after dropping all four games on their trip to Southern California.  Whitworth is scheduled to open Northwest Conference play next weekend at Whitman. 

Kaden White's single drove in Wright with the game's initial run in the bottom of the first. 

Whitworth took a 2-1 lead in the fourth when Tyler Bailey scored on a passed ball and Ethan Schulte drew a bases-loaded walk.

CLU (6-2) tied the game in the bottom of the fourth on Cole Cooper's RBI double.  The Kingsmen took the lead for good in the fifth when Wright led off with a triple and scored on a ground out to shortstop.

Daniel Parr's RBI double in the seventh increased the lead to 4-2.  CLU added two more in the eighth.  Wright doubled in the first run and then scored the second on Nick Pico's single.

Bailey and Taylor Poffenroth each had a pair of hits for Whitworth. 

Austin Rice (0-1) started on the mound for the Pirates and took the loss after allowing three runs on seven hits in five innings.  Mathew Pulliam and Connor Grydtal finished up in relief.

Tony Frazier (1-0) got the win for the Kingsmen after going five innings and giving up two runs on two hits.  Christian Slattery picked up his fourth save, despite allowing three hits in the ninth.
